Some thoughts on Running.
Remember when you were a kid and you ran everywhere without giving it a second thought. It's further back for some of us than others but you were able to do it. When i returned to running later in life after a long break, I did it the stupid way (to much to soon, total disregard for technique and wrong equipment i.e shoes) and consequently hurt myself (I'd fallen in love with parkrun and P.B's).
Consequently I had to fix myself. This has taught me alot of lessons, and not the least , chronic pain is an absolute misery and makes you hard to live with, my wife's words . You know when they say the pain radiated out from the area, mine seemed to radiate throughout my whole life, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get fitter and improve your health, you know if your not going forward your going backward.
There are a lot of things we can do to avoid getting in this position e.g get good shoe's ,run on soft surfaces, get some postural advice and running tips but if you are going to participate in life you are probably going to have the odd accident and or injury.
If you get bruising apply Arnica ointment a.s.a.p and often. It is the number one vulnerary (blunt injury trauma) it seals the small blood vessels so you don't get massive swelling and therefore quicker healing. It is also included in my herbal linament.
This linament is a broad spectrum concoction for aches, pains, strains, tears and general soreness. Without going into the whole mix one of the key ingredients is Wintergreen oil. This oil is different from a lot of commercial rubs (which only penetrate the skin three to four millimetres) in that it goes in one hundred millimetres. Meaning you can get at almost anything or anywhere in the body.
Moving on to performance i can recommend and make herbal mixes that can enhance performance. A couple of example's would be Oats to build muscle and help manage lactic acid build up. Yarrow to tighten and tone everything from blood vessel's (stops you getting nose bleeds) to ligaments. Rhodiola allows the blood to carry more oxygen (THE HOLY GRAIL). This is what all athletes need most and it's a herb and legal and safe.
The research on Rhodiola came out of the break down of the Soviet Union so it's not that well known in the west but the result's are remarkable (they experimented on their officer cadets) and because it increases oxygen carrying capacity they improved in there studies as well. Smarter, Faster and with more endurance, count me in.
If you would like to know more or think this may assist you please get in touch and we'll really get you moving better , whatever your standard.
All the best Damian Frawley.
